...The day of reckoning has arrived.
I never thought i'd be joining the millions, possibly billions, who are doing this already. I always said i'd try to steer clear of this until I was informed of it's advantages as a young, up-and-coming graphic designer when it would come to applying for a job. The P.P.D lecturer told us of possible employers 'googling' us pre-interview, and upon 'googling' myself immediately after the lecture, I found to my surprise that theres a 'has-been' actor called Sean Fox filling all the top hits. Now I could've let things lie and let this veteran of film take all the glory ...(for what I have to say is a great name!), but my incredibly competitive side kicked into life and saw this as a challenge that simply couldn't be overlooked.
At this point I should probably talk further about my competitive nature, many would see it as a curse of some sort, but for me it's a way of life, right down to the most mundane of activities. Walking down the street for example, if someone dares walk alongside me, they have no idea what kind of hell they have at that point unleashed. My body jumps into action (not literally I should point out!) and a one man race gets it's starting orders, my brain working out the checkpoints along the way and for each one, I strive to reach it first, the other man/woman totally oblivious to what is going on. When it comes to my design work however, I think it's a particularly good thing, striving to be top of the class, even if the 'Star Student' status is only in my own mind, because it makes me question my own work, skills and approach constantly, trying to refine myself by taking influence from the people I work with and from professional designers. But hopefully as these blogs go on, you might be able to see some sort of development taking place, but I suppose only time will tell!!
Hope that wasn't too bad for a first post?!!
Comments are more than welcome!
